Hi there, I believe you have to get pee definitely on the test end (otherwise the pee doesn't move across the reactive HCG detecting strip inside the test) and that if some pee splashes on the "window" (if it's an uncovered window ie. a paper/card test) then it can make it more likely to reveal evaporation lines ie. very faint / you have to squint to see it kind of lines.

What you can do is block the evap line from the top of the tank and get fuel caps from a Non-evap emissions vehicle. The non-evap caps are vented where the Evap fuel caps are pressure relief only if the pressure increase is too great.
