By the 1890s, London had over 2,000 horse buses and 25,000 horses, with stables and a small army of grooms, blacksmiths and saddlers. But in 1899 the LGOC started its first trials with motorised buses, powered first by steam and later petrol. Guided by our specialist volunteers, experience an Underground train from the driver’s cab and explore a variety of static vehicles built between 1930 and 1983 – including the Museum’s 1938 Tube stock. You can take a vehicle from Bond Street Underground Station to London Transport Museum via Green Park station and Covent Garden station in around 10 min. Alternatively, Metroline Travel operates a bus from Selfridges to Southampton Street Covent Garden every 10 minutes. Tickets cost £1 - £3 and the journey takes 20 min.
