After a while (we're talking Emerson here), it started skipping when playing cds and it skips in the same spots on every cd you put into it (around song #2/3 for most albums). Its pretty rare to find a brand new disc with a skip (meaning it loops back on itself over and over again). I get them sometimes where you get a repetitive click, which tends to be a defect in the pressing. Generally skipping is a poor quality table and/or your tonearm isn't setup correctly. Don't use a Crosley. If it's brand new, return it as you should have a warranty. If it's used, I can share what I did to my CD deck when I bought it. It was skipping like hell, but in a strange way. Sometimes it jumped ahead, sometimes it looped three or four times. I suspected the laser assembly not moving correctly, and disassembled the deck. The new NAD might last two years as well. I guess we have to accept the fact that most new cd players have a life expectancy of about 5 years, depending on how much use they get. I've had my 7030 for 3 years and it is still operating perfectly, but it does not get heavy use.
