Decorating a Powder Horn is really an individual's own choice.Its a fine grained powder. Swiss 3f is a spunky powder! That charge with a .490 ball out of an old Renegade chrono'd 1750 fps. With full 50-60gr charges of 1F black powder, my Walker levers do not drop , even with full day of shooting. 1F in the big Colts is fun, it probably doesn't make much real difference but it works so I'm sticking with it.The striped pillow ticking (0.015) or mattress ticking (0.018) is easiest to find. Some like the extra thickness in denim (0.020) patching or canvas (0.022). Some like the finer and denser weave of the drill cloth / utility cloth (0.017) from JoAnn's Fabrics.
